Hundreds of people lace up their running and walking shoes Saturday morning to help needy children this Christmas.
The Panama City Police Department held their 2nd Annual Trot for Tots in downtown.
More than 300 people, double last year’s turnout, could choose either a 5K or 10K course, which started at the Panama City Marina.
The entry fee was a new unwrapped toy or cash donation for the Marine Corps Reserve’s Toy for Tots.
Panama City Police say they’re pleased to see so many people show up to support a good cause.
“Maybe with the condition of the economy, people are saying ‘Hey, this is a fun way to help out a child who may be in need during Christmas time,’” says Chief John Van Etten.
Organizers estimate this year’s event raised about $6,000 for the Toy for Tots program.
