More scholarship money is on the way for students at Florida State University Panama City.
The Panama City beach chamber of commerce presented the university with a 5,000 dollar check today, with more money to come each year.
Its part of the chamber’s newly formed Panama City Beach Education Fund.
Recipients of the scholarship must be a Bay County Resident, have an Associate of Arts degree from Gulf Coast Community College, maintain a 3.0 grade point average and demonstrate financial need.
“FSU Panama City cannot survive without community support, and the beaches chamber has stepped up to the plate in a strong way in endowing a scholarship,” said FSU PC Dean Dr. Ken Shaw.
“We wanted to be a part of making it succeed, so with that we’ve always had education scholarships and giving money away, but we wanted to make something that will be here for ever in this one community,” said PCB Chamber President Beth Oltman.
The city is hoping to get more money for the fund at two fundraising events.
A poker tournament will be held on august 19 at the Ebro Greyhound Park and a Beach Chamber Golf Classic on October 15 at Hombre Golf Club.
