Lynn Haven, Fla:
A pedestrian is taken to the hospital Tuesday night after being hit by a car.
It happened in Lynn Haven shortly before eight p.m..
Few details are being released, but police say a person crossing the road was hit by a vehicle. Lynn Haven Police Chief Dave Messer tells News 13 the victim was taken to the hospital, but that person’s condition is not known.
The accident happened on Highway 77 and 24th Street in front of the Lynn Haven Post Office.
It is amazing to me how there are just a few thoroughfares and virtually no alternative routes. I live out in the county, so I have to drive a ways on these roads to get where I’m going. I do find myself using residential roads in Lynn Haven, Callaway, and Panama City to bypass the insane amount of traffic on the main roads. Sure, I have to drive slower, but at least I’m moving. As a motorist, I get really peeved at pedestrians who choose not to cross at crosswalks. We don’t have the details on this particular incident, so I am not making any accusations, but too many times people dart into the road when a traffic light or crosswalk is only a short distance away. We all have responsibilities to keep ourselves and others safe, even the pedestrians.
lynn haven is screwed up because of the traffic lights, not the businesses. you remember the millions that the county spent on “synchronizing” the traffic lights, since they started doing this the traffic has gotten worse. the city wants you to stop every block or two because you might just remember you need this or that and you’ll stop and spend money. Oldman we normally agree, this isnt pointed at you, but opposed to what some think, the sun doesnt shine or hide, rain or dry because walmart is here. this city has to grow if we are going to get any benifit from the airport.
I’m a frequent driver in Lynn Haven, the traffic around the post office and walmart is awful. Very congested. Sadly, I do use Minnesota Ave to go from TFCU to post office, it’s easier travel. I do respect that it is a neighborhood, speed limit is 20 mph. People trying to walk across Hwy 77 beware the people driving those cars are in a hurry. Lynn Haven should have looked at other infrastructures similar to theirs in other counties and learn how to move traffic. Walmart should be an expert on this, since it has stores everywhere.
Why? Because the roadways were not designed for the large amount of businesses and the traffic they generate. Poor lighting coupled with multiple traffic lights on almost every corner is a recipe for accidents. Some of these larger businesses should have been encouraged to spread throughout Bay County. Surely with the amount of cars and other transportation methods we could have found them without having everyone bunched up together like cattle.
I knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Congestion on highway 77 in Lynn Haven has got to be the worst in Bay county. It’s so bad that more and more folks are using Minnesota Ave. to get around the mess. Why?

I’m not complaining about the use of Minnesota ave. as an alternate route. I use it myself for that purpose. I’m just pointing out a situation on hwy 77 that needs to be resolved. Yes, pedestrians do dart out into traffic when you least expect it but there is a more dangerous situation. If you frequently use hwy 77 in the Lynn Haven area, have you ever noticed how many people run the red lights? Lots.
