Bay County, Fla:
Police say they now have evidence putting former prosecutor Richard Albritton III behind the wheel during a hit-and-run accident.
Authorities now say the 39 year-old Albritton left the Corner Pocket on Harrison Avenue around 11:00 p.m. on September 27. Witnesses say he was the only person in the white GMC Yukon when it backed into a parked Ford truck owned by Panama City resident Kevin Harder.
Witnesses then saw Albritton at the intersection of Highway 98 and Beck Avenue. This was just before officers received a complaint call of an impaired driver parked at the Taco Bell on 23rd Street.
Captain Robert Colbert said two officers found Albritton passed out behind the wheel in the Taco Bell drive-thru. Officer David Williams and Sgt. Ric MacKinnon reportedly parked Albritton’s car for him and called his family to come pick him up.
They later noticed a small piece of the rear bumper was missing. It exactly matched the rear bumper of Albritton’s SUV. Albritton has not been charged with driving under the influence, but Panama City Police announced Tuesday evening that Albritton has been charged with a second degree misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident.
News 13 spoke with Assistant State Attorney Joe Grammer who says Albritton was in his own personal vehicle that night.
Grammer was surprised that a second-degree misdemeanor received so much media attention. He believes this may be the first time a prosecutor was fired for such an offense. State Attorney Steve Meadows fired Albritton on Monday.
Panama City Police is still investigating whether officers followed proper procedures.

To Carl Childers, You don’t know my son. What is all this stuff before? Other than habitual offender he did nothing else. Even if he got time in jail or prison. Five years is too steep for the crime. The crime does not befit the punishment. You don’t know what went down prior to this, so please don’t talk. It can happen to you or a love one, whether you are black or white or other. What I was trying to get at, is that his son got in trouble the day after he put mine behind bars. What goes around comes around so we all better watch what we do in this life.

Hey JENNFX he wasn’t sentenced to 5 years for a mere suspended license, it’s all the stuff before hand that got him that, and who cares if he’s black and puerto rican? Anyway, the correct terminology would be your son is ALSO a menace.
On September 26, the day before the crash, Judge Albritton sentenced my 24 year old son to 5 years in jail for driving with a suspended license. That was the day before his son committed the DUI. In court the judge called my son a menace to society. My son has hit no one or property, he does not drink, and has not been in jail for anything else. He is also a veteran who served in Iraq. It might help to know that my son is Black and Puerto Rican. Who is the menace to society. Not my son.
Today’s Newsherald has softened their stand considerable from a few days ago on the Albritton scandal.
Earlier in the week, they had “free pass” written all over the paper. They now seem to be presenting a defense for Albritton. Why?
Today’s paper describes the accident as smaller than earlier reported. Just a small piece of plastic off the bumper instead of any real damage to the vehicle.
Also the paper claims how it is possible that Albritton didn’t even know that it happened, and asking what good could come from charging him with anything else.
What about his memory block about who was driving. Does the newherald have an explanation for that as well?
It sounds like someone pressured them into softening their view. Who?
I know how threatening these “well connected types” get when their dirty laundry is exposed!
This place is just like BOSS HOGGS town in the Dukes of Hazzard!
I DON’T CARE FOR MY NEWS TO BE SUGAR COATED!
What is up with this MESS !!!! Oh wait, forgot, we still live in the land of the “Good ‘Ol Boys’… Must be nice…
The “Judges” son, made a huge mistake, then lied bout it, and then was found “passed out” at a Taco bell, hmm ... was that the one that was delivering drugs in the taco’s??? Oh ya, then the two “cops” found him there, parked his SUV, and drove him home.. Excuse me, what does it take to get that sort of “escort” ????
Guess his status as a “Prosecutor” gave him the benefits of the escorts....
Would the average person get those “options” ???
give him the lesser of the two crimes.thats the way it is if yoy have money or are the son of a judge the local police and gov officals hold eachothers hands
The circumstances involving officer actions are currently under administrative
review.

Being a habitual offender is not enough? How many times should he break the law and not answer for it? If he didn’t learn his lesson before hopefully some prison time will stop his stupidity.
