Panama City Police say they found a local prosecutor drunk behind the wheel, but what happened after the alleged incident creates the controversy.
Investigators say Richard Albritton III hit a parked car then drove off in late September.  Later that night officers say they found him passed out behind the wheel at a Taco Bell, then let him go.

Wednesday, Panama City Police released the incident report from their interaction with Albritton.  A new report says officers knew Richard Albritton was a prosecutor with the State Attorney’s Office and didn’t try charging him for driving under the influence.

According to the report, Albritton left the corner pocket on Harrison Avenue on a Saturday night and backed into a red mustang then drove off.  Witnesses tell police they saw Albritton behind the wheel.  Police later received a call of an unresponsive driver at the Taco Bell on 23rd street.  Albritton’s white Yukon was seen idling about 1-2 car lengths away from the drive through speaker box.

Officer David Williams reported seeing Albritton passed out behind the wheel, then woke him up.  Williams says Albritton’s eyes were blood shot and he smelled like alcohol.  According to police reports, Williams determined Albritton was a prosecutor for the State Attorney’s Office and let him go.

Since Albritton’s girlfriend lived close by, officers allowed her to come pick him up.  These officers reportedly didn’t know the vehicle was involved in the hit and run investigation.

Officers later determined Albritton’s vehicle matched a piece of bumper found at the Harrison Avenue crash site.  Panama City Police say the officers are under administrative review.  Captain Robert Colbert has made recommendations to the police chief for possible retraining and disciplinary actions.

Albritton was charged Tuesday with a second degree misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident with damage.  He was fired from his job as a misdemeanor prosecutor at the State Attorney’s Office Monday.

Everyone needs to give it a friggin rest.  These Officers eat poo from the ungrateful public on a daily basis to keep the city safe for all of us. No one on this site unless they are a Cop knows what it is like to walk in their shoes and shouldn’t sit in their cozy, safe home and make judgements about them.  If you have been charged with a crime and feel butt hurt that no one cut you a break, GET OVER IT!  Maybe one day you will need to call one of these Officers to save you life and when that time comes remember all the nasty comments and uneducated judgements you made about them.  Better yet next time one of you trash talkers need the Police suck it up and deal with it yourself because you are not worth the dirt on their boots!

I was passed out behind the wheel, in a parking spot,in an apartment complex, in 1973. The cops woke me up, arrested me, and charged me with DWI. I feel that I was guilty of it before i went to sleep, so I was guilty! So is, lawyers, cops, judges and ALL big shots!

The whole system is corrupt , the good ol boy system is in play not only in bay county but in Jackson county. There are a few good men out there, but in the end who prevails GOD.

Yeah that’s good Pete. Until he runs over a kid coming out of Taco Bell. I guess if those cops would have lost their jobs by arresting him,if I were a cop, I guess I would have lost mine that night. Whether they get off or back out on the street is someone else’s issue. By arresting him the officer would have done his job. Now, no one can say whether he would have gotten off or not because the arrest never happened. They have to do their job initially to be able to blame the State Attorney’s office but that didn’t happen obviously.

It doesn’t matter what chain of command was followed, DUI & endangering of law abiding citizens lives should be a no-brainer, not a judgement call. Evidently the PCPD allows for bad judgement, as opposed to hiring honest cops with common sense. These cops need to be fired, because they have proved that they cannot be trusted with the law, nor can they make good judgement calls. Evidently, lawyer Albritton has as good judgement, common sense and lack of respect for the law as his judge father, none.

These patrol officers did as their imediate supervisor instructed them to do, and their imediate supervisor did as his supervisor instructed him to do, and so forth.  These patrol officers will make out well, they will eventually get their pay reimbursed, this incedent will disapear from their records and all will be well again.

“Passed out behind the wheel with bloodshot eyes and strong odor of alcohol….do you need anymore evidence?”..Well apparently so…Ask any of your law enforcement officers if they feel our current states attorneys office supports them in their jobs and most likely they will tell you NO! We think “ah those cops..they dont do their jobs right..dont get all the evidence straight” ..truth be told even when they do..even when they have the “hands in the cookie jar”..the States Attorneys office (who is supposed to protect us..the taxpayers) find a loop hole or plea bargain to get these scumbags back on the streets and skirt around doing their jobs…Albritton should go to jail..he should have that night..however the officer would probably have lost his job over it that way too..Support your local law enforcement and hope that if Judge Hess gets in there, he has the “coconuts” to do the job the way it should be done..

Just another story that confirms my belief that the wheels of corruption continue to spin out of control in Bay County!

This story is not an isolated incidence.  Bay County officials giving a “free pass” to someone who holds the “right position in town” or if their “daddy” is a local “good ole’ boy”.

Here’s a story that BAY COUNTY would love to keep quiet.  The Bay County Building Dept. issue a Registered Residential Contractor’s license to an “ex-con” with a history of felony convictions.  Grand theft, burglary and violence against law enforcement.

This Convicted Felon used violence on a woman that he had cornerd at the construction site while she pleaded for help and the coward sub-contractors didn’t dare come to her rescue or to testify against him in court.  His attorney got him off just 3 days before the trial for “no infomation” aka (the subs can’t recall anything)

The courts are being abused for his retaliation and BAY COUNTY CONTINUES TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY!

I think that the prosecutor should have been treated just like any of the rest of us…however our police officers know that if they had arrested the guy..because they could not say that they had “seen” him driving that it would have been thrown out by our States Attorneys Office or covered up or plea bargained out as is par for the course in our great city..I guess we should just be glad he did not kill anyone.
VOTE HESS!!!
