It’s back to Jinks Middle School for Bay District Superintendent James McCalister, a school at which he served as principal for several years.
“He’s very excited about it. Mr. Mac is a very popular principal and a very popular person. He’s a great administrator. I know that the Jinks faculty, staff, and parents will welcome him back with open arms because he was such a dynamic leader there. I’m sure he’ll pick up where he left off,” said Superintendent-elect Bill Husfelt.
That leaves the question of what happens to current Jinks Middle School Principal Anna McClain? Husfelt says she’ll serve as interim principal at Callaway Elementary school during the rest of November, and then interim principal at Bay High School in December because both of those principals have hit their DROP retirement and will have to re-apply for their jobs.
“Mrs. McClain is so excited about being able to go to a high school and getting some high school experience. She’s a wonderful, dynamic administrator and she’s going to be helping us out in those spots,” Husfelt said.
Last week Bill Husfelt announced that current Deane Bozeman Principal Sandy Harrison would take his spot as Mosley High School’s principal. That move leaves a vacancy at Bozeman. Peggy Bunch, the current assistant principal, will spend the remainder of the school year as the acting principal.
“That’s what the faculty wanted. They wanted her to do that for them because they didn’t want to go through the transition since it’s a pre-k through twelfth grade school. They felt very comfortable with her being the leader for the rest of the year.”
Husfelt wants to go ahead and get these appointments taken care of before he officially becomes superintendent because he says once he officially takes over he’ll have to focus all of his attention on the budget.
News13 contacted Superintendent McCalister to talk about the move. He sounded excited, but said he prefers to wait to talk about his return to Jinks until after he is no longer superintendent.
All of Bill Husfelt’s appointments will take effect on November 19 as long as the school board approves the recommendations.
