Panama City, Fla:
Muscle cars from all over the Panhandle are revving their engines for children. The eighth annual car show put on by the Panama City chapter of the American Muscle Car Club brought in cars from all over the Panhandle.
For the eighth year in a row muscle cars from across the panhandle are crowding into panama city for the panama city muscle car show. But there’s meaning behind today’s show. Sammy Allen is president of the Panama City chapter of the American Muscle Car Club. He says that “We do this every year for the kids…it has nothing to do with anything else. It’s for the kids.”
These kids mean a lot to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, who heads up Project 25. Every year the American Muscle Car Club has a car show to benefit Project 25. Becky Johns is in charge of Project 25 and says that this year’s show has yielded great results. “The sheriff and all the staff is just going to be amazed tomorrow when they see all this because it’s a whole organization that works towards this one goal of making sure that there’s not one child that’s going to wake up on Christmas morning with nothing.”
Most car shows have some kind of entry fee. For this show you just bring an unwrapped toy. Johns says “ Oh my gosh, there’s probably 300 or 400 toys over there at least!”
Project 25 is actually 28 years old and started with the kindness of a few sheriff’s deputies, according to Johns. Now the organization has grown so much that the sheriff’s office go through bay district schools to distribute what they collect: “We’re hoping this year that we make enough money to do the same thing. We do 4 to 5 families per school. And we have 23 elementary schools!”
Sammy Allen says that “Project 25 is something that’s special. Everybody has got a special spot in their heart. Everybody is having it rough and we know that. So just think about it come Christmas time and if nothing else find a child to give something to.”
The sheriff’s office asks that if you want to help out bring an unwrapped toy to the sheriff’s office on Highway 77. Monetary donations are also accepted.
