Bay County, Fla:

The FCAT measures student’s progress, and Bay District is celebrating that growth. Rosenwald Middle is one of two schools in Bay District with the biggest improvement to their school grades.

“We felt that we had gone up, that we had markedly improved. But a C to an A? Teachers began texting and calling,” said Assistant Principal Darnita Rivers.

The school has another thing to celebrate. For the first time Rosenwald has met the federal No Child Left Behind standards.

No Child Left Behind looks at how sub-groups within the student population are progressing. At Rosenwald some of those sub-groups include students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, students with disabilities, and minorities.

“Sometimes because of student populations schools get certain stigmas. This proves that all students can learn,” Rivers added.

Despite the budget cuts school districts across the State are facing, Rosenwald’s teachers and faculty will continue their efforts to maintain their newly acquired status.

“We’ve done so much with so little for so long that we can do almost anything with nothing. I believe we can accomplish the goals that we set.”
