Bay County, Fla:

Tonight a Panhandle Sailor receives one of the military’s highest honors.  A special ceremony held at the Vietnam Veteran’s Moving Wall Memorial was transformed into a tribute to a sailor Commanding Officers call one of their best.

Fellow military and family gathered at Oaks by the Bay Park this morning to honor Petty Officer Michael Taylor, a 2000 graduate of Wewahitchka High School.  Taylor was struck by shrapnel from enemy fire while on tour in Afghanistan.  Despite sustaining injuries, the Navy says Taylor continued to fight until his vehicle made its back to safety.  A modest Taylor declined to speak at his ceremony or to the media but his superiors say he’s one of a kind.

Several other local Purple Heart recipients were on hand to congratulate Petty Officer Taylor.
