A salmonella outbreak across the country has many people being a lot more careful when they go to the grocery store.  The Food and Drug Administration now says fresh jalapenos may be to blame for the recent outbreak across the country.  Salmonella can be transmitted through food and even animals.

Salmonella infections can be severe.  Doctors say these infections can cause death if not treated properly.  They are especially dangerous for young children and the elderly.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn against handling raw meat, uncooked or undercooked foods, and handling reptiles, birds, baby chicks, or animal feces.

Yva Toole is only 16 months old and is recovering from a salmonella infection.  Her fever was so high she had a seizure.  Yva’s fever rose to 105 degrees, and she suffered from stomach cramps and diarrhea.  Yva’s mom Erin says there are a couple of ways Yva may have contracted the infection.  Erin told News 13 they had a death in the family and were eating food different people had provided for the family.  The family had also spent time on a farm.  Erin says Yva’s infection may have come from the farm animals.  Despite the tough week for baby Yva, she is already showing signs of improvement.
