The Bay District School Board held personnel hearings for two Bay High School employees recently receiving drug charges.
50-year-old Linda Durant was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of hydrocodone with intent to distribute, and possession of Xanax with intent to distribute.
John Harrell Ceurvals was charged with possession of marijuana more than 20 grams. After being told the attorney for the accused would not be able to attend the meeting, the board chose to proceed without him.
The school board’s attorney Franklin Harrison presented the recommendation.
“The superintendent recommended that you be suspended without pay,” says Harrison, “And we proceed to terminate both of your employment with the Bay County School Board based on the criminal charges that are pending against you.”
The School Board approved the recommendation.
They also clarified that if the accused are acquitted of charges and reinstated after trial, they will receive back pay from the time missed.
They are now given the right to request a formal hearing, where a final decision will be made.
