Beaches of South Walton, Fla:

One South Walton County child is doing her best to impact the world in a positive way…. and she’s getting a lot of recognition for it.

At nine years of age, Ally Woodard already knows where her gifts are “…I’ve done humanitarian projects…”...almost too many projects to count, in fact, and so many that last week she traveled to New York City to receive an epic award from the Mattel corporation and the White House Project.

She recounts the experience as life-changing “…I got to go to the epic awards and meet all of these amazing women such as Karen Beatty, who was the first female police officer in India, and I also got to meet Meryl Streep…she was in Mamma Mia, and I received an epic award…it was so amazing when I got it.”

In fact, Ally is the first child ever receive an award. Children like ally are usually invited to attend as mentees, but Mattel was so impressed with Ally’s resume that she was presented her very own award “…it is very heavy!”

Ally has chaired several projects through the art miles organization that she got involved with through her school. She says after her first project she got bitten by the humanitarian bug “…Shoes of Hope…that’s what my first project was…we paint shoes and then write a note and tuck it inside of the shoe…”

Then the shoes go to needy children all over the world. Her newest project is to benefit the children of Haiti.  She’s trying to even get Jimmy Buffet on board “…he’s involved with the Haiti relief project and I was thinking that he would probably want to be involved with something else that helps Haiti!”

But in the mean time, ally will continue her quest for peace and understanding among the world’s cultures

To donate to Ally’s projects, you may email her at dwdestin@aol.com.
