TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Embattled Florida House Speaker Ray Sansom may now be facing a grand jury.

Veteran State Attorney Willie Meggs in Tallahassee told the St. Petersburg Times on Wednesday that he will turn over complaints about Sansom’s former college job to a grand jury to determine if any laws were broken.

Last week, Sansom hired Tallahassee attorney Richard Coates to help him defend against an ethics complaint resulting from taking a six-figure job at the school he’d helped get millions of taxpayer dollars. Sansom, 46, said Monday he was resigning the $110,000 job effective Jan. 31.

The speaker’s office had no immediate response to the grand jury development and Meggs did not immediately return phone calls for comment.
