Bay County, Fla:
After nine hours of deliberation, the jury in the Federal Case against Amy Cooper has still not reached a verdict.
At 12:25 a.m. on Wednesday morning, the jury told Judge Richard Smoak some of the jurors needed to go home to take medications, but that they still needed more time to deliberate. Day 2 of the trial started at 8 a.m.
Amy Cooper is on trial for using a telephone to solicit the sale of cocaine. She and her boyfriend, ex-surgeon Dr. Michael Reed, along with six others are part of a multiple count indictment filed by Federal Authorities after a two year investigation. Dr. Reed was sentenced to just under five years in prison last Friday.
The jurors came back at 6:30 Tuesday night, and told the judge they could not reach a unanimous decision. Federal juries must have unanimous verdicts.
Judge Smoak told the jury that by law he is allowed to send them back in to reconsider the evidence and try to reach a verdict.
Around 9:30 p.m., the jury came back with a legal question in reference to the jury instructions. It appeared at this point they still were not near a verdict.
As midnight rolled around, Judge Smoak decided to reconvene at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.
News 13 will be there to give you the verdict as soon as the jury reaches a decision.
