A former Holmes County School teacher and a Mexican drug supplier are arrested for trafficking meth, but that’s not all. Ten others are also in custody of the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office arrested part of a drug ring and while they say it is just phase one, they have found one the suppliers. And who he was supplying to came as a surprise to many people in Holmes County.
The leader of this ring is Jose Lopez,48, who the Sheriff’s Office says is an illegal alien. They also say he has ties to Mexican drug cartels and is suspected of being a major supplier to the area.
One of the people he was supplying to is a former Holmes County teacher Shelia Long,47, worked at Bonifay Elementary as a full time teacher for the 2007- 2008 school year but wasn’t asked back according to the Holmes District School’s superintendent. She substitute taught until November of 2008.
“You see it all over…it’s not just here it’s everywhere,” said Holmes County Resident Joey Foreand.
People say they aren’t surprised people are doing meth, but they are surprised about how they’re getting it.
“This is such a small town; I would never think that people from Mexico would be involved over here in a drug ring,” said Samantha Garner.
This case is also different because of the type of crsytal meth being used. Lopez was reportedly trafficking meth ice.
“It kind of looks like ice chips. It comes from Mexican drug cartels. It usually comes from Mexico but the major hub city is Atlanta,” said Sgt. John Tate of the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.
It’s different than the homemade meth we see made locally, it’s much darker.
Sgt. Tate says homemade was more popular a few years ago but, “here recently it’s been ice that’s been the most popular thing because it’s more readily available,” said Sgt. Tate.
He says it’s getting harder to buy the over the counter drugs it takes to make meth because of restrictions on how much you can buy.
$1600 dollars in cash, prescription drugs, and a stolen car were also seized in the process.
Superintendent Gary Galloway of Holmes District Schools says long didn’t have any criminal history when she worked at the school.
I think the way things are going I am going to become an illegal alien. Just look around you, they give you free medical needs, food stamps and alot of times a nice place to stay. Heck, I work 2 jobs and I barely have money left to put food on my table. Now to boot my car ins almost doubled and I did nothing wrong for that to happen. Lic plates doubled, god forbid you want to better yourself and get a better car, BAMM, $200 for that move. Oh well no need to vent because the law is for the illegals and the criminals. The working people will pay for this for a long time. Just my comment
Oh wow! An illegal alien commits a crime? Who would have ever thought it? I mean, did not this piece of crap commit a crime when he came into this country without following the normal (well, USED TO BE normal) immigration laws? And Washington is crawling into bed with these people as fast as they can. Even if they deport this useless waste of breath he’ll be back before the ink dries on the paperwork. Second time caught should be the death penalty or at least life in prison with NO parole.
