On Nov. 2, 2009, officers of the Panama City Beach Police Department responded to United Rentals, located at 17446 Panama City Beach Parkway in reference to a theft.
It was learned unknown persons had cut a section of the fence and removed several items of rental equipment to include welders, generators, concrete equipment, pumps and a utility trailer. Items taken were in excess of $60,000.
On Jan. 4, 2010, officers of the Panama City Beach Police Department responded to Rental, Inc, located at 127 Griffin Blvd., in reference to an alarm. It was learned unknown persons has cut a hole into the side of the building. It appeared that the suspects left behind several items of rental equipment valued in excess of $10,000, which then intended to steal, however nothing was taken.
Through the course of the investigation, it was learned that several similar burglaries had occurred throughout Northwest Florida that lead investigators to believe a sophisticated criminal organization was operating throughout the Panhandle targeting rental companies and stealing high-priced construction equipment.
The Panama City Beach Police Department working closely with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the Walton County Sheriff’s Department and the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department, Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Sheriff’s Office and the Thomasville, Ga., Police Department arrested the following individuals:
Gerald Rochez, 24, of 308 Snapper Drive, Destin, FL
Jorge Calderon, 30, of 308 Snapper Drive, Destin, FL
Francisco Bonilla, 36, Barracuda Street, Lot 4, Fort Walton Beach, FL
It is believed that the trip is responsible for the thefts of construction equipment valued in excess of $600,000. This investigation is ongoing and additional charges are anticipated.
