Bay County’s three hospitals join forces to become tobacco free.

They are joining more than 50 other Florida hospitals in the effort to be smoke-free facilities.

Representatives from Bay Medical Center, Gulf Coast Medical Center and HealthSouth say the day has been uneventful, which in this case is a good thing.

This has been a joint effort between the three hospitals, which now display smoke free signs all over the campuses.

The ban is for the entire premises of the three hospitals, so people are not allowed to smoke inside or outside, even in the parking lots.

All three hospitals have provided treatment programs. They say if a patient or visitor wishes to smoke, they will instead be provided with information on other options, such as the nicotine gum or patch.

Representatives for the hospitals call their policies non-confrontational, and the exact consequences of smoking on their premises is unclear but they say that patients who disregard the policy may be discharged from the hospital, and employees who smoke on hospital grounds could be let go.

Bay Medical officials say the move will eventually decrease insurance premiums also.

For people out there ready to quit smoking, there will be a free class and support group called “Quit Smoking Now!” which will begin Wednesday, January 6th and will be held at the Bay Medical HealthPlex.

First of all retardo, I despise foreigners and would never give one red cent of my money to a foreigner.  So you can get off that trip, and you have no idea how big of an AMERICAN I am. I’ve fought in combat zones as a part of the US Army 24 infantry division from Ft Stewart, GA. No one loves this country more than me, I would gladly die for my country. I agree with the saying charity starts at home, but I’m also a believer in everyone pulling their own weight. I don’t ask for handouts and I don’t expect my fellow country men to ask for hand outs. Get a job, get two jobs and support your family. I’ve worked two jobs before, I’ve shoveled sawdust in a sawmill, I’ve swept floors and I’m not ashame of the hard work I’ve had to do. I had a job when I was in high school and I’ve never been without a job since so if I can do everyone else can do it.
I don’t have a problem with lowering premiums, I have a problem with my tax dollars paying for bums to sit on their azz when they could work.

Nice christian people you Republican idiots are. You vote to send my money to the moon and to give it to foreigners and Israel so they can have the best government health care in the world but you have a problem voting to give 40 million uninsured AMERICANS who do work, most of them, but their employers do not have a plan for them or they are waitresses and low paying jobs where they can’t afford the rip-off Blue Cross, so they go to the Emergency Room for primary care which YOU are paying for anyways, yet these 40 million Americans have about 44,000 of them dying every year for lack of basic tests from a physical, and will be paying their own way and you vote for them to die? You disgust me and don’t ever call yourself an AMERICAN! You are nothing but another Republican Coporate Whore. Please, get out of our country. Americans, take care of Americans first, not foreigners! Money is all you think about you disgusting little straw men with your racists views of our great president.

Why can’t these “needy” Americans help themselves?? It’s called getting off your lazy azzz and getting a job!!
You haven’t read the bill either retardo, it’s about what a 5,000 pages. No one has read it, not even the people who wrote it.
Besides what you said makes no sense, when they are unemployed the health insurance is free?? Okay who pays for that? let me guess, the people who are working??
I’m EXTREMELY PATRIOTIC!! I’m A PROUD AMERICAN!! I love my country and I hate what socialist jerk offs like yourself and osama are doing to the country I love.  You want the people who work and earn a living to pay for people who sit on their lazy azz because they don’t want to do a little work.  My moto is work or starve, then you’d see a Different America because we wouldn’t be wasting tax payer dollars on bums. We could actually cut taxes and boost our economy instead of paying 35% of our paychecks to the gov’t so they can pay for lazy azzz bums to sit home smoke, drink beer & do nothing.

This a joke. It’s OK to stand on the sidewalks around these places and get gassed by the trucks, but not OK to smoke in my own car in the parking lot? This type of heavy handed approach was tried in Minnesota about 15 years ago and the U.S. Supreme Court struck it down as infringing on personal freedom.

You have not read the bill. These people are not bums they are Americans and you are already paying a fortune for their health care as their visits to our overcroweded Emergency Rooms is passed on to you in outrageous premiums, dummy.
The new bill requires anyone working that does not currently have healthcare to have 7% or $7.00 for every hundred dollars they earn deducted for health premiums from their paycheck when working. If you are unemployed for a time, yes, it is free, just like an unemployment deduction. It actually will reduce everyones cost and cover most all the uninsured and reduces the deficit by over 100 billion. It’s better than now with more services and less co-pays.
You have shown you are a republican, unamerican, and unpatriotic and unchristian as you would deny Americans the right to live just because they are poor but yet support the republicans who vote your billions for space projects, moon missions, war, and for foreigners over helping needy Americans.

retardo one, why do you keep harping on money being sent to Israel?? How do you know what goes where? Are you the one processing the transfer? If not then all you have to go on is hear say.  I for one do not wish to pay for health care for bums who don’t have money for health care but they have money for beer and cigarettes. These bums spend over $150 a month on beer and cigarettes they could be putting it towards health care and living a healthier life at the same time.

Ok here is my take on SMOKE FREE ZONES. I think if it is against the law to drive or ride in a vehicle without a seat belt on then it should be against the law to smoke or drink. How is me not wearing a seat belt gonna hurt you?? If you smoke that’s second hand smoke I’m inhaling. If you drink then you get behind the wheel and drive you could run over people. I’ve never worn a seat belt and been in some amazing wrecks with vehicles flipping and I’ve never had anything more than a few scratches. It’s my life my choice

The first step for universal health care will be voted on and passed, tomorrow night! This will be an historic event. When the bill is finally signed in January, the work will just be beginning as we need to get a single payer system plan in place, next! This will be for the good of the country and all Americans! There should be celebrations in the streets as this will be a glorious day. All of our brothers and sisters will finally be able to take one step out of poverty and we can all stand together as proud Americans who take care of their own!
Aren’t you sick of the Republicans who vote 100% year after year to ship your Billions to Israel and Iraq, so their citizens can have the best doctors and Government health care OUR money can by? Then they vote Billions to outer space and the moon? Yet, let 44,000 Americans die every year just because they are poor!
They are unpatriotic, unamerican and unchristian, sold out to corporations who would sell their job oveseas for a nickel profit!

This is private insurers such as Blue Cross, dictating the rules and supplying the patches, etc to get more profit for their companies by getting people to quit means they will pay out less in claims for cancer and heart disease.
The trouble is when Private Insurers save money, it is for them, not you. They do not lower premiums but raise them and cut benefits so their CEO’s who already average 11.5 million a year in pay, can get even more money as they could care less about you or anyone unless they can squeeze another nickel out of you.
This is why we need a Public or Free Choice Option, NOW!
Aren’t you sick of going into an American Hospitals Emergency Room and looking around at the droves of people? It’s misery of the poor at it’s finest! Most are not emergencies they are just sick poor people with no other choice. It’s so sad it makes me sick that this is how low America, has become. One of the richest countries in the world and we have this. It’s embarrasing.
