PANAMA CITY, FL – Gulf Coast Community College is proud to announce that three Visual & Performing Arts students will receive scholarships from the Florida Theatrical Association on Monday.  The grant will provide the three deserving theatre majors $2,000 each to help pay for college.

“Last year was the first time we applied for this grant,” said Maggi LeClair, associate director of Resource Development and grant writer for the college. “We applied for $6,000 and received $3,000, but this year we were awarded the entire $6,000.” The three recipients, who are in their sophomore year at the college, all are very promising actors, according to Rosie O’Bourke, division chair of the Visual & Performing Arts Division at GCCC.  Two of them are cast in main roles in the premiere of “Double Exposure” which opens at the college tonight.

“These scholarships will certainly help our gifted students continue their education,” said O’Bourke, “and in these times when funding for the performing arts has been cut, it is very encouraging to receive such a generous grant.” The college’s Visual & Performing Arts programs have earned praise and accolades from statewide and regional fine arts associations through the years and their graduates go on to work as actors, singers, dancers, comedians, producers, arts administrators, directors, and playwrights. “The track record of these students demonstrates the strength of our programs and helps make the case for scholarships for talented and deserving students,” said LeClair.
