Jackson County, Fla:
By Deborah Buckhalter, Floridan Staff Writer
Quadruple murder suspect Wesley Jonathan Williams appeared in court Tuesday with his lawyer requesting a new trial date.
Williams was set for trial in October, but defense attorney Walter Smith cited problems with locating witnesses in the case.
Williams is set to appear on Oct. 21 for another pretrial hearing and court officials indicate that his trial date could be moved into early 2009 at that time.
He is accused of killing former girlfriend Danielle Baker and her three young sons in March of 2005.
Baker, 19, was found shot to death on the floor near the kitchen in her dwelling at the Old Cottondale Village apartment complex in Marianna. Her sons, 3-year-old Ahmaad, 1-year-old Amarion, and 3-week-old Aaron, were found dead in the bathtub of the apartment, bound with duct tape. Williams was the father of the two oldest boys.
Baker’s only daughter, who was 2 years old at the time, was found inside the apartment apparently unharmed. She has since been released to the custody of a family member.
Doreen Jackson, Danielle Baker’s mother, was in court Tuesday and said after Williams’ court date was changed that she was growing more and more frustrated with the process.
“It’s tiresome,” she said. “Every time you come to court, it’s another delay. It’s time for them to do something. It shouldn’t have to linger on like this. My family is looking for the day when we can have closure. Look at what (was done) to my daughter.”
