Law enforcement officials moved in on two alleged illegal gambling dens in Jackson County and closed them both down Saturday.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the State Attorney’s Office served search warrants for alleged violations of state electronic gaming laws at Allied Veterans .42 at the Oak Street Station Shopping Center in Marianna, and the Children’s Cancer Cooperative Inc. on U.S. Highway 231 near the Alabama state line.
One person was arrested at Allied Veterans .42 on an outstanding warrant from Holmes County, unrelated to Saturday’s raid.
An order closing both establishments was issued and authorities seized equipment from both.
The investigation was assisted by the Marianna and Cottondale police departments, the Florida Highway Patrol, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and investigators from Bay County.
Nice article. Its drastically breathtaking expound owing to me.Hope this cede limn deserved appurtenant to every one. Thanks whereas sharing this overpowering one.Keep posting. All the elite whereas your budgeted posts.certification exams
The reason the courts side with the so called illegal gambling rooms is very simple: there not illegal. They run underneath a sweepstakes law. The police get pressure from lottery or dog tracks or indian casinos and they’re not sure if they are legal or not and they are afraid of the political problems so they charge you and let the courts take the pressure off of them so they say we have done all we can. I hope this will explain it clearer. Im only telling you these things from 1st hand experience 20 years of the same old stuff. Im just saying stop wasting are tax $ on political junk and do your homework 1st before you jump in and cause people problems just to cover there own butt.
Hmmm… so the laws are wrong not to allow these things to go on, but the courts are right to side with them? I’m not a legal professional, but I’m thinking there is a bit of a contradiction there.
PLEASE understand these locations are operating under florida sweepstakes law no differnt then mcdonalds or coke or pepsi sweepstakes. The only difference is they give a % to there charity they do not have to run with a charity to be legal so before you speak and say something is wrong or evil do your homework or join the brains behind wasting are taxes. TAKE THE TIME AND WATCH HOW THE COURTS SIDE WITH THESE SO CALLED GAMBLING HOUSE OVER AND OVER AGAIN . SO EVEN A SMALL CHILD WOULD KNOW THERE MUST BE LEGAL OR THE COURTS WOULD NOT LET THEM STAY IN OPERATION .
Sting is absolutely right! This state is living in the 50’s and I beleive this is 2009.
We need less taxes on the backs of the citizens and legalized gambling would do it! It would bring in billions in tax revenue and billions in more tourist dollars and more jobs. Tourists and residents are now dropping off their excess cash in Biloxi,Atlantic City, Foxboro,Las Vegas, and two dozen other states that have legal casino style gambling. If you are opposed to gambling that’s fine, don’t gamble. The fact is the state of Florida already rakes in billions in gambling via lottery, Powerball, bingo, cardrooms, race tracks, etc and now is time to make these hippocrites privatize gambling and allow huge corporations who have a track record such as WYNN,Sands,Hard Rock,MGM, and others, to do it right and collect the NEW revenue it would bring. This would keep our present taxes in check or even lower them. Without this new revenue, expect Florida to continue the downward spiral like California!
If the state would adopt the laws like Nevada. The state will make the money to run the state, city, and county governments with all the high taxes. Let’s get the people to come here to Florida and leave their money, Legalize gambling.
Interesting, they don’t tell you how many law enforcement agents was regulars at allied veterans, and I’m not talking about undercover work.
I see how this went down, somebody lost a bunch of money and ratted them out.
Regardless of whether it SHOULD be legal, at this time it isn’t. Much like the ongoing pot discussions… and how evil is it for people to take advantage of the law by invoking such things as veteran’s rights and children’s cancer to cover up illegal activities?
Here we go lets send the cops in on a holiday weekend to bust some illegal gambling rooms that are open to the puplic and run all over the state under the sweepstakes law the police know there legal and so does Da. So after they cost these store owners MONEY AND COST YOU AND ME THE TAX PAYERS. They will lose in court or settle out of court and they will be back open fact. Now the police officer who made this case and the Da who backed it up with out doing there homework, needs to pay all the wasted taxs payers back and the store owners. Or they need to find another job that does not harm the puplic . Oh not to metion allied veterans helps vets so a portion of the money they make goes to them .And childrens cancer fund does the samething .SO SHAME ON YOU WHO EVER MADE THIS CALL . EVERYONE NEEDS TO CALL THE SHERIFFS OFFICE AND TELL HIM HE NEEDS TO GET SOME REAL CRIMINALS NOT THE MADE UP ONES LEAVE THE VETS AND THE CHILDREN ONLY!
Deckboy is right! The state has legalized most all gambling, state run lotto, Powerball multi state, cardrooms, bingo, horse and dog tracks, Indian Casino’s, etc. They should be locking up the Governor and the state reps who voted no to statewide casino gambling as these fools have thrown away billions in NEW revenue and tourist dollars that would come here and instead have diverted the much needed revenue to illegal establishments such as these and have sent the tourists and residents to Biloxi, Atlantic City, Vegas, and 140 other casino sites and two dozen other states including, now, Pennsylvania!
Throw these bums out as they have ruined Florida and now dig into our pockets deeper to find the needed revenue to run the state when they could have gotten all they needed by legalizing casino gambling giving us also, more tourists and much needed NEW jobs!
These idiots do not represent the majority of Floridians any longer! They represent Special Interests,PACS,Big Oil, and Insurance
Legalize gambling now!!! Another example of wasted tax payers money. I have to ask each of you. How were you personally harmed by this violation of the law? Don’t tell me that it is against the law therefore these people must be arrested,as the beach is covered up with underage people at this very moment. They are drunk and disorderly, just as they are at spring break, and the police are looking the other way. I guesss the good old boys were not benefitting from this illegal activity in Marianna and Cottondale.

Okay, so we legalize gambling in Florida? What’s to insure it doesn’t turn out to be as big a joke as the so-called lottery has been for our schools? The added costs for extra law enforcement, and I use that term very loosely, the criminal element that will surely follow and the headaches for the locals that have to put up with all that will become a part of it just don’t seem to make it very appealing. I personally don’t care if people want to throw their money away as that is their business but how do you make this work and not be another lottery fiasco? And don’t feel me that garbage about it being good for our schools, either. That will really turn me against it. Can we have really clean legalized gambling that will actually do something besides make the select few fat cats and good old boys richer?
