Vishnukumar “Vish” Patel was shot and killed behind his business, Sylvia’s Grocery, late Thursday night.
Friday, customers, neighbors, family, and friends all gather at the grocery store to remember Patel. Many brought flowers to show their sympathy for Patel’s wife.
His customers say he was a good man who cared about his community. He would often allow store credit to those who needed it. And would give essentials to customers who couldn’t afford the things they needed.
Mr. Patel was killed during an attempted robbery. According to authorities, he was approached by Nicholas Lee who tried to rob Patel, when Patel put up a fight, Lee reacted by firing his gun.
There are six individuals being charged in this case. Lee is charged with an open count of murder, armed robbery with a firearm and possession of marijuana more than 20 grams.
Lee was accompanied by a woman name Amy Cucco, who according to neighbors of Patel, was recently fired from Sylvia’s Grocery.
Joshua Sourbeck reportedly drove Cucco and Lee to Sylvia’s Grocery when they intended to rob him. Then after the incident, investigators say Sourbeck drove Cucco and Lee to Paul Wynn to try and sell him the 9 mm gun he used to shoot Patel.
When Wynn couldn’t afford the gun, he allegedly directed the party to Josheph Gainer and his girlfriend Sarah Lynn Hill.
Nicholas Lee then reportedly sold the murder weapon to Joseph Gainer for $250 worth of Marijuana.
The six accused’s official charges are as follows:
Nicholas Tyrone Lee, DOB 8/23/89, of PO Box 244, Altha, Florida, on charges of Open Count of Murder, Armed Robbery with a Firearm, and Possession of Marijuana more than 20 grams.
