DeFuniak Springs, FL (March 1, 2010) – The Northwest, Florida Chapter of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) are now greater informed on keeping the home front safe when they are on the road. On Saturday, more than two dozen (GWRRA) members heard from Walton County Sheriff’s Office Crime Prevention Specialist Anna Lacour during their monthly meeting in DeFuniak Springs.
The Gold Wing Road Riders Association is the world’s largest single-marque organization for owners and riders of Honda Gold Wing/Valkyrie motorcycles. Local Chapter President Wes Davis says, “We are an organization consisting of 900 active chapters with thousands of members. Our motto is for Fun, Safety, and Knowledge, and we try and provide our members with information they can use”.
Mrs. LaCour told the gathering that criminals are “lazy”. They will look for an easy target so just the simple act of locking a home or vehicle goes a far way in preventing a break-in. Several Gold Wing members asked questions about creating a Neighborhood Watch in their communities. They want to be proactive and not becoming a crime statistic.
The Northwest, Florida Chapter maintains members from across the Panhandle including such places as Panama City, Marianna, Fort Walton Beach, and DeFuniak Springs. One member said the presentation on crime prevention has made him more aware of his surroundings’ when it comes to not being a victim.
