Defuniak Springs, Fla:
They’ve always wanted to do it and now they have. Walton County Schools got all A’s and B’s on their report cards, and they’ve been trying to do it for years.
Walton County Schools all scored either an A or a B on the report card that the Florida Department of Education gives out each year. They’ve come close, but this year it finally happened.
What made the difference is the professional development in the areas that the data said needed help in. They’ve prepared their teachers. The administrators have provided the professional development to make sure that these new skills are embedded into everyday teaching.
The Florida DOE allocates grades based on FCAT performance. For a school to get an “A” it must meet adequate progress of lowest scoring students in both reading and math. Each school system gets points for the highest FCAT scores.
Of course Superintendent Anderson is proud and excited for all students and teachers. They’ve already started to make adjustments to improve next year’s science scores, but the superintendent says that all the schools will celebrate when the students get back in the fall.
