Panama City Beach, Fla:
As the sun shines on Panama City Beach tropical storm Gustav churns in the Gulf of Mexico. With this storm comes the question of how it will impact the Beach’s last big weekend of the summer.
At this point it’s a little too early to say just how much Gustav could impact area businesses, but Andy Phillips with the Tourist Development Council says he thinks there will probably be at least a small hit.
“Right now the weather is projected to be beautiful for the weekend, but unfortunately when people see on the weather channel that Gustav is down there lurking in the Caribbean it is going to impact us to some extent,” said Phillips.
He says potential visitors are already calling to find out what they should expect this weekend and if they should come, but he doesn’t believe businesses should panic.
“There are a lot of inquiry calls coming in but we’re still booking a lot of reservations. The demand is still strong for this weekend,” Phillips added.
Some area businesses reported a drop in sales this past weekend from the threat of tropical storm Fay and hope that’s not the case again for the second weekend in a row.

It would be just like our money- hungry TDC to keep promoting the Holiday. Look people, we barely have enough resources for the locals during a major storm, let alone 200,000, drunk, disrespectful tourists! We have three ways in, three ways out during a evacuation, so we really don’t need the added people coming down here “for fun”. This just proves that our corrupt local government doesn’t care about ANYONE- they only care about getting paid! PCB is run by a bunch of sad, ignorant scumbags, all you have to do is look at the lack of Lifegaurds issue. We had TEN PEOPLE DIE, yet the TDC thinks that making the local beach chair vendors get “Open Water” certified will do the trick. Problem is, the vendors should not have to be responsible for stupid tourists that can’t figure out what two red flags mean. Also, they DO NOT recieve any pay for dragging drunken visitors out of the Gulf!
