“He’s got great agility, great acceleration and great vision. He has all the tools to be a great one,” said Arnold coach James Hale.
Coach Hale sums up the talent Arnold junior running back Jeremy Hester has in just one sentence, the tools to become a great one.
Hester’s stats prove his talent as well.
The Marlin star enters the playoffs with 35 total touchdowns and on the edge of rushing for over 2,000 yards.
Hester now holds the Bay County scoring record, and he also set the single season rushing record in the county this season.
“I kind of try to make a move and I scan the defense before I even get the ball. I scan the defense. I kind of know what I’m going to do before I get the ball because I see who lined up in what spot,” said Hester.
Great vision is what the 5’8” running back possesses. Very similar to an NFL legend, a legend who Hester compares with.
“Barry Sanders, because when I check him out, he’s got that low gravity to the ground, and I try to stay low like him. When I see him, I see me running. What really gets me is him being 5’8” and me being 5’8”. It kind of encourages me that if he’s 5’8” and he can do it to, I can do the same thing,” said Hester.
Even a great like Barry Sanders had to have blocking up front in order to break off the long runs, and Hester wastes no time acknowledging that he is where he is because of his offensive line.
“I didn’t do it all myself. It’s like a team effort. My offensive line is great. I wouldn’t trade them for anybody,” Hester stated.
“I’ll tell you what; he’s scored a lot of touchdowns. Those offensive linemen, everybody overlooks them, but without them, he wouldn’t be doing the things he’s doing right now,” said Hale.
Thanks to the help of his offensive line, the end zone has become like a second home to Hester.
“I kind of communicate with that end zone this year. I talk to it as soon as I step on the field and we’re stretching, I ask myself which one of the end zones I am going to score in first. I kind of think of all kind of things. It’s like my second home,” said Hester.
Hester still has one more year to play for the Marlins, and he says he is receiving a lot of letters from colleges, but he is remaining focused on high school right now.
