Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen announced today the arrest of four Mowat Middle School students in connection with gang initiation beatings on campus. Three of today’s arrests were of students also charged in a gang initiation beating Friday, January 15, 2009.

An investigation into the gang initiation beating that took place Friday, January 15, 2009, resulted in the arrest of seven students and the subsequent discovery that two other gang initiation beatings had also taken place on campus just days earlier.

On January 13, 2010, a student was beaten as an initiation into the Gangster Disciples by two gang members. Two suspects have been arrested as a result: Terence M. Fortenberry, DOB 8/4/94, of 2517 Sarasota Court, and Robert Dehaun Early, DOB 11/18/95, of 818 Bradford Circle, Panama City.
On January 14, 2010, a gang initiation beating took place in the boy’s restroom on campus when two students were “beat into” the Gangster Disciples by four gang members. Fortenberry and Early were also charged in connection with this incident. Two others arrested were Jimmy Lee Daniels, DOB 1/25/97, of 2101 W. Hwy 390 in Lynn Haven, and Ryan Rodgers, DOB 4/20/95, of 2710 E. 17th Street in Panama City. Fortenberry and Early are charged with two counts of Causing, Encouraging, Soliciting, or Recruiting Criminal Gang Activity, Daniels and Rodgers are charged with one count of Causing, Encouraging, Soliciting, or Recruiting Criminal Gang Activity, a third degree felony.

What do you expect when they show on tv the storm dumping rain and classrooms flooded full of water with teachers collecting water in cans in the middle of their classrooms. Water that has to be boiled 100 days a year. Filthy, dirty schools in need of major repairs and a doubling of janitors and maintenance personnel.
Our schools are falling apart. My grandkids play with cockroaches and ants in these filthy Bay County Schools. TB is in the air!
It’s not the teachers fault or administrators. It’s the residents of Bay County and their refusal to fund education properly and they need to pass a half cent sales tax or even a 2 cent sales tax to improve the deteriorating schools.
They look like gang clubhouses, not schools.

sugarbear24, I wonder if this is how Columbine started? Whoever your child reported this to needs to not only be removed from the school but from the school system entirely, in otherwords fire that embicile! What do they want, another Columbine before they start listening to the kids that actually know what’s going on? How totally STUPID and LAME do these people have to be and they are in charge of our kids????? They need to get their heads out of their butts and start paying attention!

My son also is a student at Mowat. He came home last Tuesday and reported to me about the Fights in the bathrooms. He said he would NOT report it for fear of telling and someone finding out who it was. So i do think that its a bigger problem then they want to admit too.

You need to let the school board know the name of the person who refused to believe your daughter’s report. Had this person believed her there might be a few less injured students. And, the parents of the injured students should sue the school board due to their refusal to take action. Granted the boys were being initiated, but the school should have taken steps to prevent it.
