Panama City, Fla:This year ACURE is hosting their annual all-day MLK festival at McKenzie Park. We spoke with ACURE president Myron Hines earlier and he says it’s going to be quite a busy day.
The event will start at 10 a.m. with a DJ spinning all day in the park. At noon there will be a ceremony featuring the superintendent of schools, the mayor, representatives from the sheriff’s office and other community leaders. Throughout the afternoon participants can enjoy the crafts, food booths and many different entertainers ranging from rappers to dancers to a pair of very talented four-year-olds. Hines says that once again this year the Gulf Coast Community College Choir will headline at the festival and will be the final musical act of the day.
Bay County residents say they are looking forward to relaxing and reflecting on Martin Luther King, J.r’s birthday. Tyrone Irvin says he thinks it should be a day of unity: “I think everybody should come together to unite as one. and leave whatever’s going on; leave it alone and everybody just come together and unite…You should come out to McKenzie Park and mingle with the folks and enjoy Martin Luther King’s birthday.”
Those wanting to celebrate the day earlier can attend the Bay County NAACP breakfast tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. at the Glenwood Community Center.
