Crime becomes a family affair according to Panama City Beach Police who arrested a mother, her husband and two sons for prescription drug fraud.

“Unfortunately the fraudulent prescriptions cases have been on the rise in the past couple of years,” said Maj. Dave Humphreys, “it is unusual to have a mother and her adult sons involved.”

Officials say 41-year-old Jeannette Flowers was calling in prescriptions for hydrocodone from a doctor’s office where she worked.

“The mother obviously was central to the whole thing in that she worked for a doctor’s office,” said Humphreys, “the other individuals were involved in picking up the prescriptions.”

Jeannette’s husband 54-year-old James Kenneth Flowers, along with their two sons 18-year-old Cody and 26-year-old James Matthew.  All face prescription drug fraud charges.

Together the family allegedly obtained 137 prescriptions from 5 area pharmacies over the course of 2 years, totaling more than 3 thousand pills.  A Publix pharmacist reported suspicious behavior which spurred the week-long investigation.

Local pharmacist David Adams with Adams Pharmacy says nowadays, policing is part of their business.

“We have to play sort of law enforcement as well as medical provider and we try to help law enforcement in any way that we can,” he said, “It’s sad but we try to do our best to curtail that and try to catch any fraudulent activity.”

Both pharmacists and law enforcement say they hope advancements in the field like new electronic databases can help them catch cases quickly.

“That’s ultimately what we’re dealing with here is trying to stem the flow of these things that upon misuse can ultimately lead to someone with a serious injury or death,” said Humphreys.

According to State Attorney Glenn Hess, if convicted, the Flowers could face anything from rehabilitation to incarceration.

I think we should post the name of the Dr’s office Ms Flowers worked at.  Her history with the Police isn’t isolated to just this event and was well known.  We should avoid the medical folks who would employ her.
