A report from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office provides new information on an accident at Smurfit-Stone Container that happened Wednesday.

According to the report, Benjamin Nunnery, 63 of Wewahitchka, is suffering from severe second and third degree burns on his arms, chest, neck and face.  Nunnery is a contract worker with Quality Plus Services.

Witness, Russell Miles, 32 of Wewahitchka, says that Nunnery was cutting a metal pipe with a saw that produces a large amount of sparks.  One of the sparks caught his shirt on fire.  A chemical extinguisher was used to put the fire out.

A Bay Medical spokesperson says Nunnery was treated there and then transported by air to another facility.  Representatives with Smurfit-Stone Container declined to comment.
