Washington County Sheriff Bobby Haddock reports a very active two weeks in which 4 methamphetamines laboratories were dismantled and 7 people arrested by deputies and investigators as a result of those investigations.  The latest of these arrests came Friday, January 22nd, after a high speed pursuit in the Buckhorn Creek and Quail Hollow area resulted in the arrest and subsequent search of a residence in Quail Hollow.  Arrested was Matthew Stafford, 28 year old white male and Roy English, 43 year old white male.

Deputies and investigators from both the Chipley Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Office searched Stafford’s residence and located a meth lab along with chemicals used in the manufacturing of methamphetamines.  Officers also found a large amount of prescription medication.  Stafford was charged with resisting arrest without violence, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver, possession of amphetamine, possession of controlled substance (pharmaceuticals) and possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Roy English was also arrested on unrelated warrants.

In the early morning hours of Monday, January 25th, deputies and investigators as part of the Washington County Drug Task Force responded to reports of a mobile methamphetamine laboratory located at the intersection of orange hill highway and Alford road.  A vehicle had left the roadway and entered into thick underbrush where officers and EMT’s located a blue bag with a mobile methamphetamine lab inside.  During the course of the investigation, Clay Gurganus, 30 year old white male from Graceville, FL was arrested and charged with violation of probation on a Holmes County warrant with additional charges possible.

Sheriff Haddock states, “The Washington County Drug Task Force, consisting of investigators from both the sheriff’s office and Chipley Police Department, has taken an aggressive stance to the methamphetamine problem in our county.  Our objective is to meet the problem head on and utilize all available resources to counteract this growing epidemic.”
